Adaptive Physical Education

The overall health, fitness level and physical growth of the students are the focus of the adaptive physical education program. Age and skill level appropriate goals are developed utilizing a wide variety of equipment, progressions, and activities. Intramural sports include: soccer, basketball, floor hockey, and softball. We also have a monthly swim program and Tournament of Champions Bowling and Bocce teams.

Our Health Education program was developed in conjunction with our Adaptive Physical Education program. The Health program focuses on self-care, good hygiene practices, healthy eating, self-advocacy and how to acquire the proper medical assistance, or other help if needed. The health curriculum was developed based on the age groups and level of the various classrooms at Alpha School, as well as individual needs within each classroom.

Art Inspiration is the key for every artistic work produced in an Alpha Art class. Each student is given the opportunity to create their own style and use art as a means of expression. The program features: exposure to different art styles, principles, techniques, annual art exhibits at various community settings, artwork featured at local museums, and participation in art contests sponsored by local community agencies.

Alpha School’s Music program includes group sessions that are focused on increasing self-expression, socialization, and communication through activities such as rhythmic drumming, instrumental improvisation, music listening, movement songs and songwriting.

In addition, a strong emphasis is placed on self-expression through participation in a variety of highly motivating activities which enhance social skill development through school-wide performances featuring students’ unique talents, individualized instrumental and vocal instruction, and choreography and movement.
