Alpha School Welcomes a NEW Supervisor of Instruction

Alpha School welcomes the new Supervisor of Instruction, John Gonzalez. Mr. Gonzalez replaces newly retired, Mrs. Anne Marie Hall.

Mr. Gonzalez will oversee the classroom operations at Alpha School and work with the teaching staff to serve the academic and functional needs of the students. Mr. Gonzalez and the instructional staff will collaborate on IEP planning and implementation and behavioral intervention.  Mr. Gonzalez, also recently certified, will serve as the School Safety Specialist.

Mr. Gonzalez comes to Alpha School after working most recently, the last two years, at one of Alpha School’s sister schools, Gateway School in Carteret, NJ. Prior to joining Gateway School in 2016, Mr. Gonzalez spent 14 years as a Special Education Teacher and Administrator in the Jersey City and Newark Public School systems.

In Mr. Gonzalez’s previous experience, he worked with students with mild to severe learning and behavioral disabilities. Mr. Gonzalez also served additional roles such as Summer Credit Recovery Coordinator and coached multiple sports including baseball, football, and soccer. Mr. Gonzalez also holds a Certificate of Eligibility for School Business Administrator.

Mr. Gonzalez completed his undergraduate education at Rutgers University in 2000 and received his Master’s in Arts in Special Education from New Jersey City University in 2006.

Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, Mr. Gonzalez is a graduate of Marist High School in Bayonne, NJ. Mr. Gonzalez presently resides in East Brunswick where he serves as a board member for two youth sports organizations.

Mr. Gonzalez always shares with staff and parents alike that what he does professionally is beyond just a job and a means to earn a living. As a parent of a child with an ASD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Mr. Gonzalez can empathize with the parents and families of students. Mr. Gonzalez says, “At least one time a year, and generally more, I am sitting on the other side of that table in an IEP meeting discussing, evaluating, and planning my child’s educational program.” Mr. Gonzalez is an advocate and supporter of programs for children with disabilities.
