A total communication approach is utilized to facilitate effective interactions with others. Methods utilized include the following:
- Verbalization, gestures, sign language
- Picture communication symbols/Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)
- Voice output communication aids (VOCA)
- Oral motor interventions
